Hugh went back to the Peru area for a time, and stayed with the Coles. He helped out at the Westleigh Farm. People stayed at these houses; Cole Porter himself rarely stayed there. He mostly hung out in New York City.

Louis Albert "Bun" Cole married Ella McCaffrey
Kate Porter Cole married Florence McCaffrey.
(Brothers married sisters).
Florence "Toney" McCaffrey, (died 1984) the first cousin of Alyce Miller and Hugh Joseph Miller, is the daughter of Florence Aloysius McCaffrey and Kate Porter Cole. Kate is named for her aunt Kate Porter, the mother of Cole Porter.
Florence Aloysius McCaffrey married again with Blanche Christina McLeod, and had a son Peter Anthony "Tony" McCaffrey (1932) still living.
Mary Ann Brown, who may have been just a child at the time, would probably still remember Hugh; she is living in Indiana, (first cousin once removed of Hugh).

Peru, April 30. -- A message from Fred GARLOW, grandson of the late William CODY (Buffalo Bill) Saturday afternoon informed local residents that Sam COLE, 34, was killed in an automobile accident at Cody, Wyo., early that morning.
The message stated that Cole was driving his car along the highway and his car skidded into the ditch. According to the message he was pinned under the car and his back was broken killing him instantly.
Mr. Cole was in Wyoming on a fishing trip.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ruth COLE, and one son, Sammy [COLE], a sister, Mrs. Kate COLE McCAFFREY, two brothers, J. Omer [COLE] and Louis COLE, of this county. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
We do miss Hugh and Mary Lou so.

ReplyDeleteFlorence Aloysius McCaffrey and his 2nd wife Blanche Christine McLeod had two children: Peter Anthony McCaffrey(1932-2013) and Julianne (McCaffrey) Gaiser(1940-2005).
Julianne loved the idea of a large family because of her father, so she had 14 children. 11 girls and 3 boys, only one of which didn't survive infancy(a girl).
